Nifty Spreadsheet Viewer
Open Excel, OpenDocument and other spreadsheets in a fast read-only grid with sheet tabs, formulas, search and CSV export, and compare two workbooks as a diff.
Maintained. No sign-in. No telemetry. Works in VS Code, Cursor, Windsurf, VSCodium and other editors that use Open VSX.
Features

- Open spreadsheets in VS Code.
.xlsx, .xlsm, .xlsb, .xls, .ods, .fods and Apple .numbers files open in a fast, read-only grid instead of "binary file". Large sheets scroll smoothly because only the visible rows are loaded.
- Sheet tabs, formulas and comments. Switch sheets at the bottom. Select a cell to see its address and its formula (
=SUM(B2:C2)) or value in the bar above the grid. Formula cells and cells with comments are marked.
- Keyboard and search. Move with the arrow keys, Page Up/Down, Home/End and Ctrl+Home/End. Ctrl+C copies a cell. Find searches values and formulas across all sheets; press Enter to step through the matches.
- Export to CSV. Save any sheet as UTF-8 CSV, from the viewer, the editor's title bar or the Explorer's right-click menu.
- Open as text. See every cell and formula of a workbook as plain text, to search it or copy from it.
- Compare workbooks. Select two spreadsheets in the Explorer (or run the command) to see what changed, cell by cell, with formulas, in VS Code's diff editor.
- Stays up to date. If the file changes on disk (re-exported, pulled from git), the viewer reloads it.
- Works in the browser on vscode.dev and github.dev.
