Nifty Data Viewer
Open CSV, Parquet and JSON files as a fast table and query them with SQL, powered by DuckDB. Sort, page through millions of rows, and export to CSV, Parquet or JSON.
Maintained. No sign-in. No telemetry. Works in VS Code, Cursor, Windsurf, VSCodium and other editors that use Open VSX.
Features

- Parquet opens as a table. Double-click any
.parquet file and it opens as a grid with column types, instead of a wall of binary. For CSV, TSV, JSON and JSON Lines (gzipped too), use Open With… → Nifty Data Viewer, the Explorer's right-click menu, or the table button in the editor's title bar.
- Query with SQL. The file is the table
data, so you can run any DuckDB SQL against it: SELECT region, sum(amount) FROM data GROUP BY region, joins against other files with read_csv_auto('other.csv'), window functions, SUMMARIZE data, and more. Press Ctrl+Enter to run.
- Millions of rows. DuckDB streams the file and only one page of rows reaches the editor, so large files stay responsive. Page through the results, see the total count, and click a column header to sort (click again for descending, a third time to clear).
- Export the current result, sorted as shown, to CSV, Parquet or JSON. It's an easy way to convert between formats or save a filtered subset.
- Everything runs locally. DuckDB runs as WebAssembly in a background thread inside the editor. There's nothing to install, no server, and no Python.
- Double-click a cell to copy its value. Dates, timestamps, decimals, lists and structs are shown readably.
