Nifty Settings Sync

Sync settings, keybindings, snippets and extensions between VSCodium, Cursor, Windsurf and VS Code through a private GitHub Gist, with a diff before anything is overwritten.

Maintained. No sign-in. No telemetry. Works in VS Code, Cursor, Windsurf, VSCodium and other editors that use Open VSX.

Features

Download Settings opens a diff against the settings uploaded from a laptop running Cursor, asks first, and applies them on Apply

Downloading settings from another editor: a diff and a question before anything changes

The Settings Sync menu from the status bar

  • Settings Sync for every editor. Microsoft's Settings Sync only works in VS Code. This one works in VSCodium, Cursor, Windsurf, Kiro and VS Code alike, and between them, so your setup follows you from one editor to another.
  • Everything that makes an editor yours: settings, keybindings (kept separately for Windows, macOS and Linux, since they use different keys), user snippets, user tasks, and the list of installed extensions.
  • Stored in your GitHub account. Everything goes to a private GitHub Gist, using the editor's built-in GitHub sign-in or a personal access token. You can open, read and version it like any gist. On a new machine, the gist is found by itself the first time you download.
  • No surprises. Before a download changes anything you see a diff of your settings and a summary of what will change, and your current files are backed up first. Missing extensions are installed from the editor's own marketplace (Open VSX in the forks). Extras are only removed if you ask.
  • Machine-specific settings stay put. Zoom level, remote settings and terminal paths are never uploaded, and a download keeps this machine's values for them. Add your own patterns ("myext.*").
  • Automatic if you like. Upload whenever something changes, and check for newer settings at startup. Both are off by default.
