Nifty Git Links

Open or copy links to files, lines, commits and pull requests on GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, Azure DevOps and Gitea. Right-click, share, done.

Maintained. No sign-in. No telemetry. Works in VS Code, Cursor, Windsurf, VSCodium and other editors that use Open VSX.

Features

Lines selected, Copy Link to File/Lines picked from the right-click menu, and the status bar confirming the copied permalink

Nifty Git Links in the editor's right-click menu, with lines selected

A copied permalink pasted as a Markdown link

The status bar says when the link falls back to the last pushed commit

  • Share the exact lines. Select some code, right-click, and choose Copy Link to File/Lines. You get a link like https://github.com/acme/app/blob/4f2c…/src/api.ts#L42-L57, ready for Slack, a ticket or a code review.
  • Links that don't break. Permalinks point at the exact commit, so they keep showing the right code after the file changes. If your latest commit isn't pushed yet, Nifty Git Links links to your last pushed commit instead, so the link never 404s. It tells you in the status bar when it does this.
  • Markdown links. Copy Markdown Link gives you [src/api.ts#L42-L57](https://…) for PR descriptions and docs.
  • Who changed this line? Open Commit for Current Line runs git blame and opens that commit on the web.
  • Blame and history on the web, for the current file.
  • Create a pull request for your current branch in one click (GitHub, GitLab merge requests, Bitbucket, Azure DevOps, Gitea).
  • Every major host, including self-hosted ones:
    • GitHub and GitHub Enterprise
    • GitLab (including subgroups and custom ports)
    • Bitbucket Cloud
    • Bitbucket Server / Data Center
    • Azure DevOps (dev.azure.com and *.visualstudio.com, HTTPS and SSH)
    • Gitea, Forgejo and Codeberg
  • Right where you need it. In the editor's right-click menu, on the line numbers, on editor tabs, and on files in the Explorer.

Nifty Git Links uses your local git, so it works the same in VS Code, Cursor, Windsurf, remote SSH sessions and dev containers.
