Nifty Todo
TODO, FIXME and HACK comments highlighted in the editor and listed in a tree, plus Better Comments-style markers.
Maintained. No sign-in. No telemetry. Works in VS Code, Cursor, Windsurf, VSCodium and other editors that use Open VSX.
One extension replacing two: a TODO tree and comment highlighting that keep working after VS Code updates.
Features

- Every TODO in one place. A TODOs view in the Explorer lists every
TODO, FIXME, BUG, HACK, XXX and NOTE comment in your workspace. Group by file or by tag; click to jump to it. A badge shows the count.
- Highlighted in the editor. Each tag gets its own colour (and a mark on the scrollbar). Highlight just the tag or the whole comment.
- Your own tags. Add
REVIEW, @todo, PERF or anything else, with any colour.
- Better Comments-style markers.
// ! Deprecated: don't use is red.
// ? Why is this needed is blue.
// * Important is green.
//// oldCode(); is struck out.
- Author and ticket tags.
TODO(ann): … and FIXME[JIRA-123]: … are recognised.
- Live. Updates as you type and when files change on disk.
- Copy as a Markdown checklist. Paste all TODOs into an issue or PR description.
- Any language. Understands
//, #, /* */, <!-- -->, --, ;, % and ' comments, and ignores tags inside strings.
- Fast and safe. Skips node_modules, build output, minified and binary files. It doesn't depend on VS Code's internal search binary, which is what broke other TODO extensions after updates.
- Works in the browser on vscode.dev and github.dev.
