Nifty Docs

Look up the word under the cursor in Dash, Zeal or DevDocs, with docsets picked from your language and frameworks.

Maintained. No sign-in. No telemetry. Works in VS Code, Cursor, Windsurf, VSCodium and other editors that use Open VSX.

Features

Right-click useState in a React component, Look Up in Docs, and the React useState page opens in DevDocs

Look Up in Docs on a React hook

Search Docs for something that isn't in the file

  • One key to the docs. Put the cursor on useState, os.path.join, Array.from or flex-wrap and press Ctrl+Alt+H (or right-click and choose Look Up in Docs).
  • Works on every OS.
    • Dash on macOS
    • Zeal, the free offline docs browser, on Windows and Linux
    • DevDocs.io in your browser when neither is installed
  • The right docsets automatically. The file's language picks the docsets, and frameworks your project uses (from package.json, requirements.txt, pyproject.toml or composer.json) come first. useState in a React project searches the React docs.
  • Sensible queries. In JavaScript, items.map searches for map; in Python and Go, os.path.join and strings.Split keep their module path.
  • Search Docs… when you want to look up something that isn't in the file.
  • Make it yours. Choose docsets per language for Dash/Zeal and DevDocs.
