RuntimeWire

RuntimeWire adds RuntimeWire's rotating AI and developer-news headlines to Claude Code's status line and thinking-spinner verbs, so you see a fresh headline while Claude works.

The feed occasionally includes a clearly labelled sponsored headline. When a sponsored item is shown during a live Claude Code session it counts as an impression, and publishers who add a key receive a share of that sponsorship revenue (see "Revenue share" below). The extension is fully opt-in and reversible.

How it works

RuntimeWire edits only two official keys in your own ~/.claude/settings.json:

  • statusLine — points at a small, local, network-free script (~/.runtimewire/statusline.mjs) that prints one rotating, clickable line.
  • spinnerVerbs — replaced with the current headline pool so a fresh line shows while Claude is thinking.

No Claude Code bundle is patched. Nothing else in your settings is touched.

Enable / disable

  1. Run RuntimeWire: Enable from the Command Palette (or click the status-bar item). You'll be asked to confirm before anything is changed.
  2. Restart your Claude Code session to pick up the new spinner verbs.
  3. Run RuntimeWire: Disable at any time to restore your original statusLine / spinnerVerbs exactly as they were (a backup is taken before the first edit).

Revenue share

Run RuntimeWire: Set Publisher Key and paste your rwpub_… key from the RuntimeWire dashboard. Once set, sponsored impressions are attributed to you and your balance appears in the status bar. Without a key, the feed still works — you just don't earn the publisher share.

Settings

  • runtimewire.apiBase — RuntimeWire origin (default https://runtimewire.com).

Privacy

The status-line script is local-only and never makes network calls. The extension's background refresh fetches the public RuntimeWire feed and (when enabled) reports sponsored impressions; a stable anonymous install id is used for attribution and fraud prevention. Your publisher key is stored in VS Code's encrypted secret storage.
