Blue & Rose

Cobalt blue, turquoise plates, cream porcelain, and a little red rose.

A playful VS Code theme with a vintage touch, inspired by the colors and floral world of RURU MARY'S. Made independently out of a personal fondness for that world. This is an unofficial project, with no affiliation or endorsement. All included artwork is original; no official logos or photographs are bundled.

What's inside

  • Blue & Rose Light — One soft cream background across the editor, sidebar and panels, with blue and rose accents.
  • Blue & Rose Dark — Deep blue surfaces with bright turquoise and soft rose accents.
  • Blue & Rose Icons — Roses and leaves on turquoise folders, a rose sprig for workspace roots, and floral stationery for generic files and Markdown. Language icons retain recognizable symbols.
  • Blue & Rose Product Icons — Fine lines and rounded corners for the editor's controls.

Both color themes share the same syntax roles: rose for keywords, blue for functions, turquoise for strings, leafy green for types, and gold for numbers.

Active tabs use rose text and a rose top line. Selections are turquoise; search matches are gold. Diffs use vivid green for additions and red for deletions, with stronger fills and borders around changed text. Ordinary text selections remain borderless.

Install and activate

Install Blue & Rose from the Visual Studio Marketplace.

If you have a VSIX file, open the Extensions view, choose … → Install from VSIX…, and select the file.

Use the Command Palette to activate each component separately:

Command Choose
Preferences: Color Theme Blue & Rose Light or Blue & Rose Dark
Preferences: File Icon Theme Blue & Rose Icons
Preferences: Product Icon Theme Blue & Rose Product Icons

Enable Blue & Rose Icons as well as the color theme to see the flowers in your Explorer and file tabs.

To show markers on modified tabs, enable workbench.editor.highlightModifiedTabs. The extension does not change your font settings.

Updates

The Marketplace identifier remains restard.ruri-rose-theme so existing users receive updates through the original listing. The display name is Blue & Rose. There is no need to uninstall the published extension; after updating, select Blue & Rose Light or Dark if needed.
