Install the official Salesforce extensions https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=salesforce.salesforcedx-vscode
Authorize an org using the standard SFDX extension or CLI
Run the SFTG: Install Salesforce Type Generator Plugin to install the SFDX CLI plugin
Run the SFTG: Create Default Type Generator Configuration command to generate an initial configuration for the SObjects you would like to generate types for
Run the SFTG: Generate Salesforce Types
Reference the generated types in your code 😃
