Introduction

Dusty Petal Theme is a soft, muted, and elegant color theme for Visual Studio Code. It is built around a calm palette of blush white, peach blush, dusty rose, and graphite charcoal, tuned to feel warm, understated, and gentle on the eyes during long coding sessions.

The extension ships two distinct, selectable variants from the same visual family:

Dusty Petal Theme Light — a warm blush-white editor with graphite foreground and dusty rose accents.
Dusty Petal Theme Dark — a deep warm graphite editor with pale blush foreground and muted dusty rose accents.

Themes

Both themes are fully themed across the editor, sidebar, terminal, command palette, settings, search, source control, extensions, status bar, tabs, and notifications. Every accent is applied selectively so the result reads calm and professional rather than overtly pink.

Dusty Petal Theme Light

The light variant uses a warm blush-white editor background (#FFF5F5), a graphite charcoal foreground (#4A4A4A), and dusty rose accents (#D98C9C, #C97E8E) reserved for tabs, badges, selections, and highlights. Sidebar and panels are tonally separated from the editor without harsh contrast.

Dusty Petal Theme Dark

The dark variant is derived from the same graphite charcoal, using a deep warm graphite editor background (#262021), a lighter graphite sidebar (#221D1E), a pale blush foreground (#E8DDE0), and muted dusty rose accents. It stays visually within the Dusty Petal family while offering comfortable low-light contrast.

Palette

The theme is inspired by four core colors:

The syntax palette expands these into muted mauve, soft terracotta, dusty lavender, warm beige, muted sage, and desaturated blue-gray so that comments, strings, numbers, booleans, keywords, operators, functions, classes, types, variables, parameters, properties, tags, attributes, punctuation, regex, JSON keys, and Markdown elements stay clearly differentiated.

Installation

Open the Extensions view in VS Code (Ctrl+Shift+X / Cmd+Shift+X).
Search for Dusty Petal Theme.
Click Install.

Alternatively, run the following command from the Command Palette (Ctrl+Shift+P / Cmd+Shift+P):

ext install lilinhuang.dusty-petal-theme

Usage

Open the Command Palette (Ctrl+Shift+P / Cmd+Shift+P).
Run Preferences: Color Theme.
Select Dusty Petal Theme Light or Dusty Petal Theme Dark.

To switch quickly between them, use the same command again at any time.

Design Philosophy

Dusty Petal Theme aims for a soft, muted, and elegant look that is warm and slightly vintage without becoming cute or saturated. Accents are used sparingly, contrast is kept readable across every surface, and the two variants share an identity so switching feels like changing the light, not the mood.
