Installation
From VS Code Marketplace
- Open VS Code
- Go to Extensions (Ctrl+Shift+X)
- Search for "Kote"
- Click Install
Manual Installation
- Download the latest
.vsix file from the Releases page
- Open VS Code
- Run "Extensions: Install from VSIX..." from the Command Palette (Ctrl+Shift+P)
- Select the downloaded file
Getting Started
After installation, you'll need to connect to your Kote instance:
- Open the Kote sidebar (click the icon in the activity bar)
- Enter your Kote URL
- Provide your API credentials
- Select your default workspace/project
2. Basic Usage
Ask AI Questions
Keyboard Shortcut: Ctrl+Shift+K (Windows/Linux) or Cmd+Shift+K (Mac)
- Select text in your editor (optional)
- Press
Ctrl+Shift+K
- Type your question
- Get instant answers from your Kote
Save Code Selection
- Select code in your editor
- Right-click and choose "Kote: Save Selection as Note"
- Choose project and add optional tags
- Save instantly
Save Active File
- Open the Command Palette (Ctrl+Shift+P)
- Run "Kote: Save Active File as Note"
- Choose project and add optional tags
- Save entire file as a note
View AI Sessions
- Open Kote sidebar
- Click the history icon (clock) in the sidebar title
- Browse recent AI-assisted development sessions
- Click any session to view details

The extension adds context menu items when you have text selected:
- Kote: Save Selection as Note: Save selected text as a note
- Kote: Open Chat: Open the AI chat sidebar
The extension can automatically sync sessions from:
