API Request Copier

Select a Java class or method in VS Code, right-click Copy Request, and copy a Spring MVC or JSON-RPC request.

  • cURL for Bash, Windows PowerShell and CMD; HTTP files; Postman Collection 2.1; JavaScript fetch and Axios.
  • JSON, form data, multipart file uploads and JSON parts, text and binary bodies.
  • Paths, repeated query parameters, headers, cookies, generic DTOs, records, enums, inherited contracts and composed annotations.
  • JSON-RPC automatic, named and positional arguments, notifications and batches. A single collection remains one method argument.
  • Editable preview, environments and temporary Bearer or Basic authentication.
  • Plugin preview and notifications default to the operating system language. Choose Chinese, English, Japanese, Korean, French, German, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, Arabic, Hindi, Indonesian or Urdu in the language dropdown. Simplified and Traditional Chinese are available.

Usage

Install Language Support for Java by Red Hat and wait for Java project import in Standard mode. Source types are resolved by the Java language server; your application and an AI service are not required.

Place the caret in a method, select a class, or select the whole file when it contains one public type. Choose requests when several endpoints are available. Copy commands copy directly by default, including requests with sample-value warnings. To open Preview automatically for those warnings, enable Preview On Warnings (requestCopier.previewOnWarnings) in Settings. The explicit Preview command always opens the editor; conversion failures still display an error.

Search for API Request Copier in Settings to configure environments, context paths, protocol and annotation names. The default JSON-RPC annotations are from jsonrpc4j. Automatic parameters use a named object when all arguments have explicit parameter-name annotations, and a positional array otherwise. Method-level ARRAY / OBJECT settings take priority. A single DTO uses params: [{...}], a single collection uses params: [[...]], and a single string uses params: ["string"].

In Preview, edit the URL, parameters, headers and body, then copy. Authentication values are temporary and are included only in the requests you choose to copy; they are not saved in settings.

Review example business values, URLs, authentication and file paths before use. Dynamic routes and runtime custom serializers cannot be inferred. Unresolved and recursive types require manual review. Kotlin source is not currently supported.

Native VS Code commands, settings descriptions and the short extension description follow VS Code's display language. Preview and notifications follow the plugin language selection. The Marketplace README is a single English document.

Bash output uses cURL. On Windows, use a Unicode-capable cURL for non-ASCII file paths. PowerShell and CMD outputs pass UTF-8 configuration bytes to curl.exe; CMD requires Windows PowerShell.

The fetch and Axios file-upload snippets require a selectFile(path) function supplied by the calling environment. Use cURL, HTTP or Postman for headers browsers restrict, such as Cookie.

Installation

Install the packaged .vsix using Extensions → … → Install from VSIX. Java language support is an extension dependency. If it was already running when the extension was installed, reload VS Code to load the new Java server bundle.

Privacy

Source analysis and request conversion run locally. This extension does not send source code or requests to external services. Generated snippets are copied or exported; the extension does not execute them. Runtime test tools and sample servers are development dependencies and are not included in the VSIX.
