CSV Desk Lite: Offline Grid Editor
Open any .csv / .tsv in a virtualized grid ("Open in Grid" button in the editor title, or Reopen Editor With… → CSV Desk Grid).
- Two-way sync: double-click a cell, edit, Enter. Only that record's text is rewritten; Ctrl+Z works because edits go through the VS Code document.
- Sort by clicking a header (numeric-aware), filter across all columns, toggle header row.
- Delimiter auto-detect: comma, tab, semicolon, pipe. Proper quoting:
"" escapes and newlines inside quoted fields.
- Files up to 50 MB in Lite. 100% offline: no network, no telemetry, strict webview CSP.
Pro (coming soon, paid add-on): unlimited size, column stats, convert to JSON / SQL INSERT, split & merge.
How it opens
CSV Desk registers an optional custom editor, so .csv files still open as text by default. Use the Open in Grid title-bar button, the Explorer context menu, or Reopen Editor With… → CSV Desk Grid. Edits are applied to the underlying text document, so dirty state, save, undo/redo and Git diffs behave normally.
Limits (Lite)
- Max 50 MB (50M characters); larger files show an "Open as text" notice.
- Fixed-width columns (no resize yet); multi-line cells display on one line.
- No add/delete row or column, range paste, or keyboard cell navigation yet.
- The whole file is re-parsed after each edit (~0.5 s at 50 MB).
- Changing the delimiter setting changes parsing only; it does not rewrite the file.
Privacy
No network access, no telemetry, no analytics. The webview runs under a strict Content Security Policy (default-src 'none' + nonce).
