Replace History

A VS Code extension for saving and reusing literal find-and-replace pairs.

Commands

  • Replace History: Save Find and Replace asks for the text to find and the replacement, then stores the pair for reuse in any workspace.
  • Replace History: Apply from History applies a saved pair to the current selection or the entire active document. Matching is literal and case-sensitive; each non-overlapping occurrence is replaced.
  • Replace History: Clear History removes all saved pairs after confirmation.

The Save and Apply commands are also available as icons in the editor title toolbar and in the editor context menu. VS Code does not expose a supported extension menu contribution point inside its built-in Find and Replace widget.

The extension keeps the 100 most recently used pairs in VS Code global state. Re-saving a pair moves it to the top rather than creating a duplicate. An empty replacement is allowed; an empty find string is not.

Development

npm install
npm test

Press F5 in VS Code to launch the Extension Development Host.
