Ozu for VS Code

Ozu lets you share local Markdown and plain text files with stable URLs, directly from VS Code.

Use this extension when you want to publish a local document, keep the shared page up to date, or reconnect a file on a new machine without changing the URL people already have.

Features

  • Share the current Markdown or plain text file to Ozu.
  • Update a shared file while keeping the same URL.
  • Reconnect a local file to an existing Ozu document.
  • Open the shared URL from VS Code.
  • Restore a document that was disabled in Ozu, if your account has permission.

Requirements

  • VS Code 1.99.0 or later.
  • An Ozu account.
  • Network access to Ozu.

Install

Install Ozu from the Visual Studio Marketplace, then reload VS Code if prompted.

Run Ozu: Sign In from the Command Palette and choose a sign-in provider. Ozu opens your browser to complete sign-in, then returns you to VS Code.

After sign-in, the status bar item shows the current Ozu connection state for the active file.

Share A File

Open a local .md, .markdown, or .txt file and run Ozu: Share Current File.

You can also use the Ozu action in the editor title or the Explorer context menu. When sharing succeeds, the URL is copied to your clipboard.

Update A Shared File

For a file that is already connected to an Ozu document, run Ozu: Update on Ozu.

The update keeps the existing stable URL, so people who already have the link can keep using it.

If you want connected files to update automatically when you save them, enable ozu.updateOnSave in VS Code settings.

Reconnect A File

Run Ozu: Reconnect Current File when a local file should point to an existing Ozu document. This is useful after switching machines, cloning a repository, or moving a file.

The extension supports reconnecting by:

  • pasting an Ozu URL or token
  • choosing from recent documents
  • searching by title

Reconnect is saved on your current device.

Disabled Documents

If a connected document is disabled in Ozu, the extension shows restore actions instead of normal update actions. Run Ozu: Restore on Ozu when you have permission to reactivate the document.

Troubleshooting

  • If you do not see Ozu actions, open a local .md, .markdown, or .txt file.
  • If sharing or updating fails, run Ozu: Show Debug Log and include the relevant log entries when contacting support.
  • If you signed in with the wrong account, run Ozu: Sign Out, then sign in again.
  • If a file is not connected to the expected document, run Ozu: Reconnect Current File.

Privacy And Local Data

The extension stores sign-in data in VS Code's secure extension storage. It also stores local file-to-document connections on your device so it can remember which Ozu document belongs to each file.
