  • Configure target platforms in VSCode settings
  • Default targets: Android, iOS, Linux, macOS, Web (optimized for desktop + mobile development)
  • Support for all pub.dev platforms and SDKs (Dart, Flutter)

⚡ High Performance

  • Concurrent processing: All package requests happen simultaneously (4-8x faster)
  • Real-time progress feedback with detailed status updates
  • Comprehensive error handling with fallback information

🌙 Developer-Optimized UI

  • Dark mode only interface optimized for long development sessions
  • Clean, professional design with intuitive navigation
  • Visual distinction between dependency types (📦 production, 🔧 development)
  • Branded experience with custom logo and consistent theming

🏗️ Modular Architecture

  • Clean separation of concerns with dedicated modules for each functionality

Requirements

  • VSCode 1.107.0 or higher
  • A Flutter/Dart project with pubspec.yaml

Extension Settings

This extension contributes the following settings:

Target Platforms

  • pubspec-platform.targetPlatforms: Array of target platforms you want your app to support
    • Default: ["Android", "iOS", "Linux", "macOS", "Web"]
    • Available options: "Android", "iOS", "Linux", "macOS", "Windows", "Web"
    • Recommended: Include Linux/macOS if you develop for desktop platforms

Target SDKs

  • pubspec-platform.targetSDKs: Array of target SDKs you want your app to support
    • Default: ["Flutter"]
    • Available options: "Dart", "Flutter"

How It Works

The extension follows a modular architecture:

  1. YAML Processing (src/utils/yaml.ts): Parses pubspec.yaml and extracts dependencies/dev dependencies
  2. Web Scraping (src/utils/scraper.ts): Concurrently fetches package data from pub.dev and extracts platform/SDK information
  3. Compatibility Analysis (src/utils/compatibility.ts): Compares package capabilities against your target platforms
  4. UI Rendering (src/ui/webview.ts): Displays results in an interactive dark-mode dashboard
  5. Orchestration (src/extension.ts): Coordinates the entire workflow

Performance Optimizations

  • Concurrent HTTP requests: All package data is fetched simultaneously instead of sequentially
  • Efficient HTML parsing: Uses Cheerio for fast, reliable DOM extraction
  • Case-insensitive matching: Handles platform name variations (Web/web, Android/android)
  • Smart caching: Failed requests provide fallback information without breaking the analysis

Design Principles

  • Single Responsibility: Each module has one clear purpose
  • Test-Driven Development: All features are thoroughly tested
  • Modular Design: Easy to maintain, extend, and refactor
  • Performance Optimized: Concurrent processing and efficient algorithms

Known Issues

  • Network-dependent: Requires internet access to fetch pub.dev data
  • Rate limiting: Large projects may encounter pub.dev API limits (automatic retry recommended)
  • Platform name variations: Some packages may use inconsistent casing (Web/web)

Contributing

This project uses a modular architecture that makes contributions easy:

Development Setup

# Install dependencies
pnpm install

# Run tests
pnpm run test:unit

# Build extension
pnpm run package

# Package for local installation (.vsix file)
pnpm run package:vsce

Adding Features

  1. Identify the module where your feature belongs (utils/, ui/)
  2. Write tests first for the new functionality
  3. Implement the feature following existing patterns
  4. Run the full test suite to ensure no regressions
  5. Update documentation as needed

Deployment

Automated CI/CD

This project uses GitHub Actions for automated testing, versioning, and publishing:

Triggers:

  • Push to main: Auto-increments patch version and publishes
  • Release creation: Publishes with current version
  • Manual dispatch: Choose version bump type and publish manually

Requirements:

  1. VSCode Marketplace Token: Set VSCE_PAT secret in GitHub repository settings
  2. Repository ownership: Workflow checks for YgorAzambuja as owner

Publishing Scripts:

# Package extension locally
pnpm run package:vsce

# Publish to marketplace (requires VSCE_PAT)
pnpm run publish:vsce

Manual Publishing

If you need to publish manually:

  1. Package the extension:

    pnpm run package:vsce

  2. Publish to marketplace:

    npx vsce publish -p $VSCE_PAT

Version Management

Versions are automatically bumped based on:

  • Patch: For bug fixes and minor changes (0.0.1 → 0.0.2)
  • Minor: For new features (0.0.1 → 0.1.0)
  • Major: For breaking changes (0.0.1 → 1.0.0)
