ChatBook — Cursor History Viewer

Browse, search, and replay your Cursor AI chat history — directly in the editor sidebar.

Never lose track of a past conversation again. ChatBook gives you instant access to all your Cursor agent sessions with full-text search, context-aware results, and a clean reading view.

✨ Features

🔍 Full-Text Search

Search across all your conversations instantly. Results highlight the matched keywords and show the surrounding context — so you always know why a session matched.

📋 Conversation List

All your Cursor agent sessions in one place, sorted by most recent. Collapse or expand each session to preview the last messages at a glance.

📖 Full Conversation View

Click View all to open any session in a dedicated tab — formatted just like Cursor's own chat interface, with:

  • User messages in a clean right-aligned bubble
  • AI responses in full-width readable layout
  • Syntax-highlighted code blocks
  • One-click copy button on every message

📅 Date Filter

Filter sessions by date range using the built-in calendar picker — find conversations from last week in seconds.

🔎 Search History

Your recent searches are saved per-workspace, so you can quickly re-run frequent queries.

🚀 Getting Started

  1. Install ChatBook from the marketplace
  2. Open any Cursor workspace
  3. Click the 💬 Chat History icon in the Activity Bar (left sidebar)
  4. Your conversation history loads automatically

No configuration needed. ChatBook reads Cursor's local transcript files directly.

⚠️ Requirements

  • Cursor IDE (not VS Code) — ChatBook reads Cursor's local agent transcript files, which are only created by Cursor
  • macOS / Linux / Windows with Cursor installed

🔎 How It Works

Cursor stores all agent conversation transcripts as local JSONL files at:

~/.cursor/projects/<workspace>/agent-transcripts/

ChatBook reads these files, parses the messages, builds a search index, and presents everything in a clean sidebar UI — with zero network requests and zero data leaving your machine.

📦 Privacy

  • 100% local — no data is sent anywhere
  • Read-only — ChatBook never modifies your transcript files
  • Works completely offline

💡 Tips

  • Press Enter after typing to search immediately (no need to wait for debounce)
  • Press Escape to clear the search and return to the full list
  • Click a search history chip to re-run a previous search instantly
  • Use the date filter to narrow down sessions from a specific time period
