Model Name Hover

Hover a model ID in your code and VS Code tells you what it is.

I kept squinting at strings like claude-3-5-sonnet-20241022 in config files trying to remember which vendor and version they were, so this parses them for me.

You hover You get
"claude-sonnet-4-5" Anthropic · Claude Sonnet · 4.5
"gpt-4o-mini" OpenAI · GPT Mini · 4o
"gemini-2.5-flash" Google · Gemini Flash · 2.5
"meta-llama/llama-3.3-70b-instruct:free" Meta · Llama · 3.3, size 70b, free, instruct

It works on quoted strings in any language. In YAML, .env, Markdown and a few other plain files it also picks up unquoted IDs. There is one command too, Model Name: Parse Selection, which shows every field for the selected text.

It's string parsing, not a lookup. It doesn't call any API and it doesn't know every model. If it can't work out the vendor, it stays quiet.

The parser is a TypeScript port of my Go package modelname. Most of the test cases are real model IDs from whizi.io/models.
