Application Accelerator Extension for VS Code

Tanzu Application Accelerator Extension for VS Code serves as a bridge between the Tanzu Application Platform and VS Code. It enables developers to leverage the power of Application Accelerator to rapidly initiate and develop projects directly in VS Code.

Application Accelerator codify best practices and offer pre-configured setups and directory structures. Enterprise Architects use Application Accelerator to build accelerators that offer ready-made, enterprise-conformant code and configurations to developers and administrators.

Dependencies

In order to use the Application Accelerator extension, you need access to a TAP cluster and the URL for Tanzu Developer Portal. Ensure the Getting Started Prerequisites are completed and set up. Before you proceed, contact your admin to ensure the configuration is complete.

Getting Started

Installation and Settings

Install the Tanzu Application Accelerator extension for VS Code. When the installation is complete, in the settings menu, complete the following steps to configure.

1. Open the VS Code settings and type in “Tanzu Application Accelerator” in the search bar. Alternatively, you can click on the Accelerator extension icon and then click on the settings button.
2. Add the Tanzu Developer Portal URL. If you don’t already have the URL, please reach out to your admin or see Retrieving the URL for the Tanzu Developer Portal.

Accelerator Catalog and Project Configuration

1. You can now explore the Application Accelerator by accessing the Application Accelerator extension icon.
2. Use keywords, languages, or tags to find specific accelerators of interest.
3. Select the desired accelerator from the catalog that meets your requirements.
4. After selecting the accelerator, customize the configuration of the accelerator as defined by your project’s requirements.

Git Repository Creation

If your organization’s Tanzu Application Platform is configured for Git repository creation, you have the option to configure the Setup Repository steps. However, it is also possible to skip this step. For detailed information, refer to the setup instructions in this Generate an application with Application Accelerator.

Review and Generate

In the Review and Generate step, verify that all the information you provided is correct, then click Generate Project. You can select the project location in the dialog box and start the development.
