Vibesaur

Raise a dinosaur from your git commit quality — not just how often you commit.

Vibesaur lives in the Explorer sidebar: an island pet that reacts when you commit in the open workspace. Local-only — no account, no cloud sync.

Kuro, Cinder, Nami, and a secret class

Features

  • Commit-fed growth — tidy, conventional commits help; junk / bloated diffs hurt
  • Living island — walk, weather, hut, campfire, slime hunts (Ruins or Classic map)
  • Three playable classes — Kuro, Cinder, and Nami (plus a secret fourth class coming later)
  • Star Store — habitat props, repeatable snacks, and costly class changes on a slot
  • Home slots — raise more than one pet; unlocking another slot costs stars
  • Pet Desk — vitals, contribution graph, and level progress
  • Settings + music — playlists and ambient BGM (can keep playing when you leave the panel)
  • Levels 1–3 — meaningful progress; your earned level is never demoted if the curve changes

Star Store & Home

Spend ✦ stars you collect on the island.

Good Cost What it does
Happy treat ✦1 +35 food bar · buy anytime
Berry snack ✦2 +25 HP · buy anytime
Campfire ✦5 Warm-up spot when it’s cold / night
Hut ✦8 Rain shelter on the island
New egg (class change) ✦60 Start a new life of that class on the active slot
Home slot unlock ✦40 Unlock the next pet slot (Slot 2 → 3 → 4)

Snacks are consumable — you can buy them again. Hut and campfire are one-time placeables. Class change and slot unlocks are intentionally expensive.

Install

From the marketplace (recommended)

  1. Open Extensions (⇧⌘X)
  2. Search Vibesaur
  3. Click Install → Reload if asked
  4. Open Explorer (⇧⌘E) → scroll to VIBESAUR and expand it or Command Palette → Vibesaur: Open Pet

Keep Auto Update enabled so you get new versions from the store.
If you originally installed from a .vsix file, uninstall first, then install from the marketplace — otherwise Cursor will not show the Update button.

From a .vsix file

  1. If upgrading: uninstall the old Vibesaur, then Reload
  2. Extensions (⇧⌘X) → ⋯ → Install from VSIX… → pick vibesaur-*.vsix → Reload
  3. Explorer → VIBESAUR (or Vibesaur: Open Pet)

Still missing after an upgrade? Command Palette → View: Reset View Locations → Reload. Install inside the same app you use (Cursor vs VS Code).

How to play

Every git commit in the open workspace feeds the dino. Only commits after you have a pet count — older history is not scored.

What a commit changes

Meter Effect
Hunger −25 every scored commit
Health Up or down from diff size + message quality
EXP +1 per scored commit · ~100 commits per level · levels 1–3

Name your dino, then hatch the egg with commits (about 25 scored commits to hatch).

Diff size (changed lines)

Kind Lines Health
tidy ≤ 80 +14
balanced 81–400 +9
bloated > 400 −2

Commit message

Kind Rule Health
junk Under 8 characters, or only wip / tmp / asdf / test / update / change(s) (bare fix is allowed) −4
conventional Not junk; starts with feat: fix: docs: refactor: test: chore: (optional scope) +6
clear Not junk or conventional; length ≥ 8 +2

Net HP = size score + message score
Example: tidy + feat: … → +20 · bloated + junk → −6

Short rule: keep diffs ≤ 80 lines and use a clear feat: / fix: style message.

Outside commits

  • Long gaps raise hunger; very high hunger can chip health
  • Lightning / slime bites can lower HP on their own track
  • Slime hunts give a little bonus EXP — they do not replace committing
  • Buy snacks in the Star Store when you need a quick HP or food boost
