Vector CAPL for Visual Studio Code

This extension provides editing support for the Vector programming language CAPL. This includes syntax highlighting, symbol completion, validation, and more.

Prerequisites

The Vector CAPL extension requires a Vector toolset to be installed. The Vector toolset comes with any CANoe or CANoe Server Edition. It is also part of the freely available Vector Test Unit Runner. At least version 16 SP3 of the Vector toolset is required.

The currently selected toolset is shown in the status bar. By default, the latest installed version is used. To select a specific version, use the command CAPL: Select Vector toolset.

Usage in the Desktop Editions of CANoe

If you want to edit CAPL scripts from a CANoe configuration (*.cfg) in Visual Studio Code, you must set Visual Studio Code as your default CAPL editor, first:

Open the Options dialog.

Go to External Programs > Tools and configure the path to the Visual Studio Code executable as CAPL file editor.

Please always open CAPL scripts directly from the user interface of your CANoe product. This will ensure that symbols from your configuration are correctly loaded.

Usage in the DevOps workflow

In order to edit CAPL files from a Server Edition environment (venvironment.yaml or venvironment-basic.yaml), you have to install the Vector Simulation and Test Environment extension. If you want to edit CAPL files from test units, you'll also need the Vector Test Unit extension.
