VS Code lists color themes by name only. Theme Gallery shows every installed color theme as a miniature VS Code window, so you can compare them at a glance and apply one with a click.
Features
Visual previews: each theme is drawn as a small VS Code window with title bar, activity bar, explorer, tabs, highlighted TypeScript code and status bar, all using the theme's own colors.
One-click apply: click a card to switch to that theme. The active theme is outlined.
Search and filter: find themes by name or extension, and narrow the list to dark, light or high contrast themes. Press / to jump to the search box.
Favorites: star the themes you like. Favorites are listed first, can be shown on their own, and sync across machines with Settings Sync.
Works offline: previews are generated from the installed theme files. No screenshots are downloaded.
Usage
Open the Command Palette (Ctrl+Shift+P / Cmd+Shift+P) and run Theme Gallery: Open Theme Gallery.
How previews are made
Theme Gallery reads each theme file the way VS Code does (JSON with comments, include chains and .tmTheme files), falls back to VS Code's default colors for anything a theme leaves out, and matches TextMate scopes to color the sample code.
Known limitations
Semantic highlighting colors (semanticTokenColors) are not applied yet, so themes that rely heavily on them may look slightly different in the preview.
Only color themes are shown; file icon and product icon themes are not.
