thinking.ad — get paid for AI wait time

Your AI coding assistant keeps you waiting — thinking, calling tools, streaming tokens. Those seconds add up to hours a week. thinking.ad turns that idle time into income.

Once installed, it places one small, rotating, privacy-safe sponsor in your VS Code status bar while you work, and pays you in USDC for it. Your share is 60% of the revenue — settled on-chain, withdrawable to your wallet anytime.

No terminal command. No patching other tools. Opt-in, and off the moment you sign out.

How it works

  1. Install the extension.
  2. Grab your developer ID at thinking.ad/me — sign in with email or a crypto wallet, then copy the ID.
  3. Click Enable & sign in (it prompts you on first launch) and paste the ID.

A sponsor now appears in your status bar and rotates roughly every 10 seconds. Click it to visit the advertiser — that's where you earn. When no one's bidding, you'll see a quiet "Your ad here" line instead (nothing is billed). Cash out your balance from your dashboard whenever you like.

Why it's different

  • You keep 60% — a larger cut than the usual split, paid per verified impression.
  • Real money, on-chain — earnings are USDC, withdrawn straight to your wallet. No points, no IOUs.
  • One tasteful line — a single status-bar sponsor, never a takeover of your editor or your assistant.
  • Sign in your way — email or a Web3 wallet; your choice.
  • Instant off-switch — Sign out and sponsors disappear immediately.

Built for privacy

The backend only ever receives two things:

  • developerId — set when you sign in.
  • sessionId — a random value generated per sponsor shown.

It never reads or transmits your code, prompts, open files, file names, selections, or repository details — the protocol has nowhere to put them. This is a deliberate design choice, not a promise you have to take on faith.

Honest by construction (no bots, no fake views)

Every view is verified on the server: serving an ad mints a signed token tied to that exact impression, and confirming it requires the token while the server independently measures how long it was actually on screen. Forged, replayed, or too-fast confirmations earn nothing — so advertisers buy real attention and you get paid for real time.

FAQ

Does it slow down or change my AI assistant? No. It only adds a status-bar line. Your coding and your assistant work exactly as before.

Can I turn it off? Anytime — run thinking.ad: Sign out or toggle thinkingAd.adsEnabled. Sponsors vanish instantly.

How do I get paid? Earnings accrue in USDC against your account. Withdraw to your wallet from thinking.ad/me.

Commands thinking.ad: Sign in, Sign out, and Open earnings dashboard (Command Palette).
