Swastik Codes for VS Code
Send API requests, run collections as tests and turn the API routes in your
code into a collection, without leaving the editor. It works with your
Swastik Codes workspaces, so your collections and
environments are the same in VS Code, the web app and the desktop app.
Swastik Codes is developed by Shwastik Tech Solutions Pvt Ltd.
Light and fast. Requests run in a small native process that starts on
your first send and stops when idle. Views load only what you open, and
request tabs are released while hidden.
Requirements
VS Code 1.90 or later on Windows (x64), macOS (Apple silicon and Intel) or
Linux (x64). The extension includes the swc command-line tool for your
platform, so nothing else needs to be installed. A free Swastik Codes account
is needed for your workspaces; sending single requests works without one.
Get started
- Open Swastik Codes in the Activity Bar.
- Choose Sign In and paste an API key (web app → your avatar → Account
settings → API keys). The key is stored in your system keychain and only
sent to the server it belongs to.
- Open a request from Collections, or choose New Request
(
Ctrl+Alt+N / Cmd+Alt+N). You can send requests without signing in.
Sending requests
- Send:
Ctrl+Enter (Cmd+Enter on a Mac). Save: Ctrl+S.
Cancel: Esc.
- Paste a
curl command into the URL box to turn it into a request.
- Params, headers, body (raw JSON/XML/text, URL-encoded, form data, file,
GraphQL), auth (bearer, basic, API key, or inherited from the folder),
pre-request scripts and tests (
pm.*), and per-request settings.
- The response shows the status, time and size, pretty JSON, headers,
cookies, test results, console output and timings. Open in Editor shows
the whole body in a normal editor tab (search, folding, save).
- Copy as cURL and Generate Code (Python, JavaScript, Go, Java, C#
and more).
{{variables}} are kept as written, so secrets stay out of the
snippet.
- Requests go out from your computer, so
localhost, your LAN and VPN
hosts work.
Any size, any place
Request tabs adapt to their size: request and response side by side when the
tab is wide, stacked when it is narrow or tall, and a compact header in
narrow tabs. Drag the divider to resize (double-click resets). The sidebar
views can be moved to either side bar or the bottom panel and resized like
any VS Code view. Choose the layout under Settings → Swastik Codes →
Editor: Layout.
Running collections as tests
Choose Run as Tests on a collection or folder. Requests appear in the
Test Explorer and each pm.test is listed under its request, with
failures in the Test Results panel. Run with Options… adds
iterations, a delay between requests, stop at first failure and a CSV or JSON
data file. Run in Terminal runs the same thing with the swc CLI.
Environments
The status bar shows the environment used for {{variables}}; click it to
switch. In Environments you can add and edit variables. Choose Set a
value on this computer only for tokens and passwords: the value overrides
the shared one for you and is kept in your system keychain, never uploaded.
Values that scripts set with pm.environment.set() are kept the same way.
Project Sync: from your code to a collection
Project Sync finds the API routes in the open folder (Express, NestJS,
Fastify, Next.js, FastAPI, Flask, Django, Spring, ASP.NET, Gin, Laravel,
Rails and more) and saves them as a collection.
- Scan and Link Project: pick a workspace and a new or existing
collection. Existing requests keep your edits, tests and examples.
- Sync now after changing routes, or turn on Sync on save.
- Preview changes shows what a sync would add, update or remove.
- Check for Breaking API Changes and API Inventory compare the code
with git history, your API definition and the collection.
Project Sync is available in trusted workspaces only.
More
Right-click a collection for the Security Check, Compare Two
Environments, Find Flaky Tests, Test Coverage, Load Test…,
Start Mock Server and Export (Swastik Codes, Postman, OpenAPI). The
Collections menu has Import a File (Postman, OpenAPI/Swagger, HAR,
Insomnia), New Request from cURL, Pull/Push workspace files
(Git-friendly JSON) and Start Local Bridge, which lets the web app reach
localhost through this computer.
Privacy and security
- Your API key is kept in the system keychain (VS Code SecretStorage) per
server, and is sent only to that server.
- In Restricted Mode requests cannot read workspace files and the project
is not scanned. In trusted workspaces, request bodies can only read files
inside the workspace folder.
- History stays on this computer, without response bodies, and with
credentials removed.
.swc.json files (committed with the code) cannot send your key to
another server.
