SnippetBook

Your personal code clipboard — browse, create, and insert snippets without leaving VS Code.

SnippetBook keeps all your reusable code in one place and syncs it across devices. Search your snippet library, paste code instantly, or save a selection straight from the editor with a right-click.

Features

Browse & Search

Open the SnippetBook panel in the Activity Bar and instantly search your entire snippet library. Results update as you type.

Insert Snippets

Click any snippet in the panel to copy it to your clipboard, ready to paste wherever you need it.

Save Selections

Highlight any code in the editor, right-click, and choose Save to SnippetBook. The create form opens pre-filled with your selection and the current language.

Create & Edit Snippets

Use the SnippetBook: New Snippet command (or the + button in the panel) to create a snippet with a title, description, language, and code block. Existing snippets can be edited directly from the panel.

Synced Across Devices

Snippets are stored in the cloud and tied to your account, so they're available everywhere you use VS Code.

Getting Started

  1. Install the extension from the VS Code Marketplace.
  2. Click the SnippetBook icon in the Activity Bar (left sidebar).
  3. Click Login and sign in with your Google account.
  4. Your snippets will load automatically. Use the search box to filter them.

Requirements

  • VS Code 1.85.0 or newer
  • A SnippetBook account (free) — sign up at snippetbook.swastikapps.com

Extension Settings

This extension does not add any VS Code settings entries. All configuration is handled through your SnippetBook account.

Known Issues

  • The login flow opens a browser window and briefly listens on localhost:9876 to receive your authentication token. If that port is in use, login will fail with a message asking you to free the port.
