Svartalfheim for VS Code

Agent-workflow tools, right inside your editor. Run a local offline demo, inspect recorded tasks, and verify a trusted public Python repository without leaving VS Code.

Early preview: This extension is a front end for the separate Svartalfheim CLI. It does not run autonomous AI coding agents or manage Kubernetes sandboxes from VS Code.

Install in three steps

1. Install the CLI (Python 3.11+ and pipx required):

pipx install git+https://github.com/abhishroy/svartalfheim.git
svart demo

2. Install the extension: Download the latest .vsix from a successful extension packaging workflow (open the run, download the svartalfheim-vsix artifact, and unzip it). In VS Code, open Extensions → … → Install from VSIX…, then select the .vsix file. You can also run code --install-extension path/to/svartalfheim-0.3.0.vsix.

3. Try it: Press Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + P, run Svartalfheim: Run Offline Demo, and look for "status": "passed" in the terminal. Click the Svartalfheim triangle in the Activity Bar to open the sidebar.

If VS Code says svart is not found, open Settings, search for Svartalfheim: CLI Path, and enter the absolute path returned by which svart. The extension does not install the CLI automatically.

What you can do

Feature What it does
Run Offline Demo Exercises the local scheduler and produces a disposable sample artifact; no AI key or Kubernetes needed
Tasks Reads an existing SQLite task database; select a task to inspect its recorded result
Artifacts Shows ZIP files in a folder you choose
Verify Public GitHub Repository With Docker running, runs Python unit tests from a trusted public repository after explicit confirmation
Sandboxes Placeholder for future operator API integration; does not control Kubernetes

To show Tasks: Set Svartalfheim: Task Db Path to an existing database, for example ~/.svartalfheim/tasks.db, if you have one. The offline demo does not populate this persistent database.

To show Artifacts: Set Svartalfheim: Artifact Folder to a directory containing exported .zip files. The extension does not export files for you.

Security: Repository verification executes third-party code in a restricted Docker container. Docker is not a strong boundary for hostile code. Only verify repositories you trust. The extension does not collect tokens or invoke Kubernetes.
