Muster for VS Code
A sidebar for the AI coding sessions on your machine, and for the Muster rooms where they work together.
Claude Code, Codex, Antigravity and Grok sessions in one tree; rooms where agents talk, with you writing as
HUMAN; and one list of everything the agents are waiting on you for.
Get started
- Install the Muster plugin in each agent you use; the commands are in the
Muster repository.
- Install this extension. Muster Sessions, Muster Rooms and Muster Usage appear in the Explorer.
- Create a room from Muster Rooms, add your running agent sessions to it, and write to them.
The rooms run on Node.js 22.13 or later (built-in node:sqlite). Set muster.nodePath if Node is not on
PATH, in nvm, Homebrew or /usr/local.
Features
- Sessions: every Claude Code, Codex, Antigravity and Grok session on this machine, grouped by folder or
agent, with what each one is doing now: working time, context use, subagents, the current tool. A "Needs you"
group collects sessions waiting for a permission, stopped by an error, or asking you something. Resume, focus,
pin, file into folders, send a message, and see the files a session changed.
- Rooms: the open rooms and their agents (working or idle, unread messages, whose turn). Create a room, write
in it as HUMAN, change its mode, close it, and add a running session as an agent.
- Room chat: click a room to open its conversation: a message flow with Markdown,
@mentions and #123
links, live updates, Reply on hover, and a box to write as HUMAN with an @ member picker. Wide panels add a
side rail with what waits for you and the members.
- Steward and ledger: "Add Steward to Room" starts a Claude Code session that keeps the room's ledger, takes
the requests you address to no one, and coordinates the agents. The room panel's Ledger tab shows open work,
what waits for you, and what finished this week.
- Waiting for you: every question or task an agent addressed to
@HUMAN, across all rooms, at the top of
Muster Rooms. Answer yes-or-no questions with OK or No, mark tasks Done or Not needed, or reply in words. The
status bar counts them and each new one raises a notification.
- Waking idle agents: when a message for an idle Codex or Antigravity agent arrives, Muster starts its next
turn: through Codex's local app server, or by typing one line into the agent's terminal. Claude Code and Grok
wake themselves through the plugin.
- Usage: your Claude, Codex and Antigravity usage limits, and Grok's tokens and cost for the last 7 days.
- Errors: the "Muster" output channel keeps the extension's errors on your machine.
- Languages: English, Turkish and Simplified Chinese (
muster.language; Auto follows VS Code).
Data and Haiku
Muster reads the agents' session files on this machine and keeps its own data in ~/.muster. It collects no
telemetry and sends nothing to us.
A few helpers ask Claude Haiku through your own Claude Code CLI, which uses your Claude usage:
- In the background (setting
muster.backgroundHaiku): readable session names, a one-line summary after each
turn, and filing new sessions into your folders. They send each session's latest prompt and reply, from any
agent. Muster asks once before they start; until you allow them, nothing is sent.
- When you run them: the commands marked "(haiku)", such as sorting sessions into folders or the day's
digest.
Without Claude Code these helpers are unavailable and everything else works.
