Auto Bookmarks 2.3.0
Auto Bookmarks scans the active editor and displays grouped matches in its own Activity Bar container on the left side of VS Code.
- Click a match to reveal its line.
- Use the gear in the Bookmarks view title or
Auto Bookmarks: Open Settings from the Command Palette.
- Select text in the editor, right-click, and use
Auto Bookmarks: Add Selected Text.
- All configuration is deliberately written to VS Code User/Global settings, never Workspace settings.
Large files
autoBookmarks.maxFileSizeMB (default 20, also editable in the Auto Bookmarks settings page) is the largest file that gets scanned. Bigger files are skipped and a status bar message says so once per file. Set it to 0 to remove the limit.
- Scan results are cached per document version, matching is done in a single pass, and the view and line-number highlights refresh 300 ms after the last change instead of on every keystroke.
- Each match stores at most the first 200 characters of its line as preview text.
Bookmarks
Everything Auto Bookmarks looks for lives in one list, autoBookmarks.documentationLinks, edited in the Bookmarks section of the settings page (one row per bookmark: search text, color, optional documentation link) or in settings.json:
"autoBookmarks.documentationLinks": [
{ "text": "TODO", "color": "#fbbf24" },
{ "text": "GlideRecord", "color": "#38bdf8", "url": "https://developer.servicenow.com/dev.do#!/reference/api" }
]
text is found in the active file (bookmarks view, badge, line-number highlight).
color is the highlight color (default blue).
url is optional. With an http(s) link, the cursor on an exact, case-sensitive match (GlideRecord, not GlideRecordSecure or MyGlideRecord) offers Open GlideRecord Documentation in the lightbulb / Quick Fix menu (Ctrl+. / Cmd+.). This only looks at the text around the cursor, so it has no cost on large files.
- The editor context menu command Auto Bookmarks: Add Selected Text adds a row to the same list.
Upgrading from 2.2.0 or earlier: autoBookmarks.searchTexts and autoBookmarks.colors are merged into this list automatically the first time 2.3.0 starts, then removed from your user settings.
Extension ID: skravciv.auto-bookmarks (the publisher was local before). If an older build is installed, uninstall it first; your autoBookmarks.* settings are kept.
