vscode-moonlight
Moonlight Glow for Visual Studio Code. A dark theme recreated from the supplied Visual Studio screenshot: charcoal editing surfaces, deep navy chrome, pale blue accents, green comments, orange strings, cyan types, and violet control flow.
This is an independent, screenshot-based interpretation, rather than an export of the original Visual Studio theme. Visual Studio and VS Code expose different UI elements, so some details differ.
Install
- Download or build
dist/vscode-moonlight-0.1.0.vsix.
- In VS Code, run Extensions: Install from VSIX… from the Command Palette and select that file.
- Run Preferences: Color Theme and choose Moonlight Glow.
Alternatively:
code --install-extension dist/vscode-moonlight-0.1.0.vsix
Develop and preview
Open this folder in VS Code and press F5 to launch an Extension Development Host. Select Moonlight Glow in that window, then open examples/Calculator.cs to compare C# highlighting with the reference. Semantic colors become available when the language extension supplies semantic tokens; TextMate rules also cover common languages and Markdown.
The extension contains only theme data, with no runtime code or dependencies. Edit themes/moonlight-glow-color-theme.json to adjust colors.
Build
With Python 3.9 or later and Node.js LTS (including npm):
python3 scripts/package.py
This validates theme colors and builds the VSIX using Microsoft’s official @vscode/vsce packager through npx. publisher is currently moonlight-local, a local packaging identifier. Before publishing to the Marketplace, replace it with your registered publisher ID.
