ShipCheck

ShipCheck is a lightweight VS Code extension that helps developers estimate whether a project is ready to ship.

Features

  • Detects Node.js and TypeScript project structure
  • Checks config, lockfile, and dependency health
  • Identifies missing build, test, lint, and docs files
  • Runs configured scripts when explicitly requested
  • Scores the project based on deterministic release-readiness rules
  • Shows grouped findings in the Explorer view

Installation

  1. Open the Extensions view in VS Code.
  2. Install the extension from the Marketplace or package it locally using vsce package.
  3. Open a workspace containing a project you want to check.

Usage

  • Open the ShipCheck view in the Explorer.
  • Use the command palette to run ShipCheck: Run Release Check.
  • Use Run Selected Checks for targeted checks.
  • Results include severity, explanation, and suggested actions.

Limitations

This extension does not guarantee production readiness. It performs local static checks and optionally runs configured scripts only when the user starts a check.
