🗺️ CodeAtlas — AI Context Intelligence for VS Code

Version License: MIT Platform

Give AI a GPS Map of Your Codebase. CodeAtlas is the local-first architectural intelligence engine for developers and AI coding assistants (Google Antigravity, Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf, Devin, and Copilot).

✨ Features at a Glance

  • 🌐 Interactive 2D / 3D Architecture Graph Canvas: Explore full-codebase dependencies with real-time WebGL force-directed graphs and Spotlight tracing.
  • 🌡️ 7-Mode Architecture Heatmap: Switch dynamically between Language, Cluster, Git Churn, Instability, Blast Radius Impact, Debt Hotspot, and Size coloring.
  • ⚡ CodeLens "Explain with Graph": 1-click CodeLens above classes, functions, and files to spotlight-zoom the visualizer camera directly to relevant subgraph nodes.
  • 🔥 Live "Blast Radius" Telemetry: Status Bar ($(flame) Blast: X files) and QuickPick impact analysis showing direct callers and cascading dependents with 1-click prompt export for AI assistants.
  • 🔄 Automated AI Rules & Live Architecture Sync: Keep .cursorrules, CLAUDE.md, AGENTS.md, and GEMINI.md continuously synchronized with live codebase DAG blueprints between <!-- CODEATLAS:START_ARCHITECTURE_MAP --> tags.
  • 🛡️ AI Linter Guard & Auto-Repair: Active editor diagnostics for circular dependencies and DDD layer violations with instant QuickFix refactoring actions.
  • 🏢 Multi-Repo & Microservices Global Mesh: Aggregate monorepo packages or decentralized polyrepos into a unified architecture graph with automated REST/HTTP endpoint discovery.
  • 🌳 Codebase Architecture & Map Sidebar: Instant AST symbol explorer (Classes, Functions, Interfaces, Cyclomatic Complexity).
  • 📦 Token-Budgeted Context Export: Right-click any file to generate secret-redacted, compressed AST signatures (saving up to 92% LLM tokens).
  • ⚡ Model Context Protocol (MCP) Integration: Connects with 16 native tools for real-time autonomous agent querying.
  • 🔒 100% Local-First & Zero Telemetry: Embedded SQLite (.atlas/atlas.db) powered by Node 22 native SQLite with automatic secret sanitization.

🚀 Quick Start

1. Install the Extension (.vsix)

CodeAtlas is packaged as a standard VS Code Extension (.vsix) and is fully compatible with VS Code, Google Antigravity, Cursor, Windsurf, and other VS Code-based editors.

  1. Download or build the codeatlas-official-2.0.0.vsix file.
  2. Open your editor (VS Code, Antigravity, Cursor, etc.).
  3. Go to the Extensions view (Ctrl+Shift+X on Windows/Linux or Cmd+Shift+X on macOS).
  4. Click the ... (Views and More Actions) icon at the top right of the Extensions panel.
  5. Select "Install from VSIX..." from the dropdown menu.
  6. Locate and select the codeatlas-official-2.0.0.vsix file to install it.

2. Index Your Workspace

Open any project folder in your IDE, open the Command Palette (Ctrl+Shift+P or Cmd+Shift+P) and run:

CodeAtlas: Index / Refresh Codebase

CodeAtlas will scan your directory, extract AST symbols via Tree-sitter, link module dependencies, and build a local SQLite graph in .atlas/atlas.db.

3. Open the Interactive 3D/2D Graph View

  • Click the CodeAtlas icon in the left Activity Bar to open the Sidebar panel.
  • Or click the Graph View button at the top-right of any open editor tab.
  • Or run CodeAtlas: Open Interactive Graph View from the Command Palette.

4. Connect to Your AI Assistant (1-Click MCP Setup)

Open your integrated terminal and run:

atlas mcp setup

This automatically configures Google Antigravity, Cursor, Claude Desktop, Windsurf, Roo Code, Trae, Zed, and Continue to query CodeAtlas on demand!
