RouteX: The instant switcher to route Codex and Claude Code to custom local APIs

Version Platform License

RouteX is a powerful, high-performance VS Code extension designed to manage, switch, and hot-deploy environment configurations for Codex Router and Claude Code CLI seamlessly.

With a beautiful, responsive dark-mode cyber interface, RouteX eliminates the need to manually configure TOML/JSON files or restart your IDE to apply new environment variables.

⚡ Features

1. Dual-Engine Switcher (Codex & Claude)

Switch between Codex and Claude configuration contexts instantly using a tabbed panel interface.

2. Shared API Key & Base URL

Fill in your Core Integration Token and Router Base URL once. RouteX automatically synchronizes and securely persists them across both engine configurations.

3. Claude Code Tier Assignment

Map custom model endpoints from your active inventory into specific Claude Code tiers:

  • 🚀 Haiku Tier (Fast/Sub-agent tasks)
  • 🧠 Sonnet Tier (Default/General coding assistant)
  • 🏆 Opus Tier (Smart/Complex reasoning tasks)

4. Real-time Model Inventory Search

Instantly filter your active/available models by name or prefix (e.g. cx/) with a fast, case-insensitive model search bar.

5. Hot Deployment & OS Sync

  • Automatically writes configurations to .toml (Codex) and ~/.claude/settings.json (Claude Code).
  • Persists system environment variables (RIZKY_API_KEY, ANTHROPIC_AUTH_TOKEN, ANTHROPIC_BASE_URL) at the Windows OS level.
  • Refreshes environment variables in the active VS Code terminal without requiring an IDE restart.

6. Pristine Auto-Backup & Restore

RouteX performs a lossless auto-backup of your configuration files on first activation. Easily restore your original, untouched config files with a single click.

🚀 How to Use

  1. Open the RouteX Panel from the VS Code Activity Bar (look for the X icon).
  2. Enter your Core Integration Token and Router Base URL.
  3. For Codex: Choose your active model from the inventory.
  4. For Claude: Click + Add on available models to assign them to your desired tier (Haiku, Sonnet, Opus).
  5. Click ⚡ Deploy to instantly apply configuration settings and reload the window.

🛠️ Bulk Model Import Format

You can quickly populate your model inventory by using the Bulk Add Configuration accordion at the bottom of the panel:

model-code-1:Model Name 1;model-code-2:Model Name 2;

Example: cx/gpt-4o:GPT 4o Proxy;cx/claude-3-5-sonnet:Claude 3.5 Sonnet;

🔒 Security

  • All sensitive tokens are securely stored in the OS Keychain using VS Code's native SecretStorage.
  • Your original configuration settings are safely backed up before any modifications are written.
