FileDIFF is a VS Code extension that lets you quickly compare any two files side by side using the built-in diff viewer.

Features

• A dedicated File Compare view in the Activity Bar.
• Pick any two files on disk — they don't need to be open in the editor or even in the current workspace.
• Click Compare to open them in VS Code's native side-by-side diff editor.
• Click Reset to clear both selections and start over.

How to use

1. Click the File Compare icon in the Activity Bar.
2. Click Pick File 1 to select the first file.
3. Click Pick File 2 to select the second file.
4. Click ⇄ Compare to open the side-by-side diff.
5. Click ↺ Reset to clear both selections.

Requirements

None — FileDIFF only uses VS Code's built-in APIs.
