Delegate work to your team instead of doing it yourself. Copilot breaks tasks down, matches people on a delegation ladder, writes their briefs and tracks their growth.

Uplift

Make delegating cheaper than doing it yourself. Paste a task and Uplift:

  • breaks it into subtasks;
  • matches each one to a team member at a level on the delegation ladder (Shadow → Pair → Checkpoint → Own);
  • writes the brief that person needs;
  • tracks checkpoints, debriefs and growth.

All AI calls go through your GitHub Copilot allowance via the VS Code Language Model API, so it needs no API keys.

Using it

Get started

  1. Click the Uplift icon in the activity bar, then Open Dashboard.
  2. To look around first, run Uplift: Load Sample Data. It only asks for confirmation if you already have data.
  3. Add your people with + Member on the Overview, or in Copilot Chat: @uplift /team add Priya to Product A as backend dev, Python 3/5, wants to grow in LLM evals

Plan a task

  • In the dashboard: + New task, choose the product, paste the task, then Break it down.
  • Or in chat: @uplift /task Product A <task text>.

Plan review shows a delegation check. It warns when you keep too much or someone would be over capacity, and suggests who could take a subtask instead. You can:

  • change owners, ladder levels and due dates;
  • rewrite a brief for a new owner;
  • copy a brief to paste into Teams or email.

Click Approve & start tracking when you're happy.

Track the work

  • Board: drag cards between columns, tick off checkpoints and flag blockers.
  • Overview: "Needs your attention" lists checkpoints due, blocked or overdue work, pending debriefs, overloaded people, promotion candidates and draft plans.

Debrief When a delegated subtask is done, debrief it from the board, from the attention list, or with @uplift /debrief Priya nailed the auth API with little help. Uplift suggests the changes and you confirm or adjust them before saving:

  • Skill level: +1 when the outcome is "exceeded".
  • Ladder: up a step after two "exceeded" in a row at the same level, down a step after two "struggled".

Growth

  • The Growth screen and @uplift /growth show your delegation rate against target, workload balancing suggestions and each person's progress.
  • The status bar shows this month's delegation rate. It turns amber when you're keeping too much.

Chat commands

Command What it does
/task [product] <text> Break down, assign, write briefs; saves a draft plan to review in the dashboard
/team Show the team; with text, edit it in plain words (you confirm before anything changes)
/debrief [how it went] List pending debriefs, or record one from a sentence
/growth Delegation trend and per-person progress

Settings

Everything can be configured in the dashboard's ⚙ Settings screen (also Uplift: Open Settings, or the gear on the Uplift view):

  • AI model: choose any of your Copilot models, or Automatic. A chosen model is used everywhere, including chat. With Automatic, chat uses the model picked in the Copilot Chat menu and the dashboard uses the first available model. Test model sends a tiny request (and gets VS Code's one-time permission prompt out of the way). This is stored in the uplift.model setting.
  • Products and team: add, rename and remove products; add, edit and remove members.
  • Delegation target.
  • Data: show the data file, load sample data, restore dismissed attention items.

Data and privacy

Everything lives in one file, uplift.json, in the extension's private global storage (globalStorageUri). It is never written to a workspace or repo.

If the file fails validation on load, Uplift copies it to a timestamped .bak file instead of overwriting it.

Member data, including private 1:1 notes, is sent to the Copilot model to tailor briefs. Check your org's policy on using Copilot for people-related data.

Develop

npm install
npm run build # extension (esbuild) + dashboard webview (Vite + Preact)
npm test # vitest: core logic (ops, ladder, delegation, attention)
npm run typecheck
npm run package # builds uplift-<version>.vsix

Press F5 to launch an Extension Development Host. To iterate, run npm run watch:ext and npm run watch:webview, then reopen the dashboard to pick up changes.
