Codex Approval Bell by Payras SoftwareA gentle local sound when Codex needs your approval. Created by Louis Payras, founder and developer at Payras Software. payras-software.com · ventes@payras-software.com Why this extension existsCodex can continue working independently for several minutes, then pause while waiting for an approval. If VS Code is in the background, that request can be easy to miss. Codex Approval Bell plays the gentle Windows What it does
What it never does
Quick startRequirements: Windows, Visual Studio Code and the official Codex – OpenAI's coding agent extension (
The status bar shows Disable or uninstall safelyBefore uninstalling, run:
The extension restores the previous Privacy and local diagnosticsThe relay inspects only the JSONL method name needed to recognize an approval request. It forwards the original protocol bytes unchanged. The optional local diagnostic log contains timestamps, process lifecycle information and the approval method name. It contains no prompt, command, file path or project content. By default it is stored under:
The extension also stores a private backup of the previous profile setting and a one-line path to the official Codex executable. These files remain local. PRIVACY.md and SECURITY.md are included with the extension for the complete commitments. Compatibility noticeThis Windows extension uses the Codex development CLI override exposed by the official VS Code extension. Codex Approval Bell performs both a CLI version check and a real app-server initialization check before enabling the relay. A future Codex update may require a compatible update of Codex Approval Bell. Ordinary Codex updates are discovered automatically. When the installed Codex extension version changes, Codex Approval Bell runs its compatibility check once for that new version, without polling the screen or running a permanent timer. If the check fails, the extension warns you and offers the restoration command. Because the relay forwards protocol bytes unchanged, the expected failure mode after an unknown protocol change is a missing sound, never an automatic approval.
