Palmier VSCode Extension Overview

Palmier's VSCode extension enhances developer productivity by providing deeper insights into codebases and improving documentation workflows.

Key Features

  • Two-click commit with auto-generated summaries
  • Automatically store conversations for AI-generated code
  • Share and revisit AI-assisted conversations

Currently, Palmier only supports integrations with Cursor and Copilot.

How to Use Palmier

Palmier’s AI conversation storage and commit features streamline your workflow. Once you start using the commit button, you'll wonder how you managed without it!

Instructions

  1. Open VSCode/Cursor with your repository.
  2. When you first install the VSCode extension, you'll be prompted to login with your Github account. If the repository that you opened is not installed with the Palmier GitHub app, you'll be prompted to do so.
  3. Once you've logged in and installed the Palmier GitHub app, you're ready to start using Palmier!

Committing with Palmier

With just a couple of clicks, you can commit changes, and Palmier will generate detailed descriptions automatically. If Palmier doesn't fully understand the changes, it will prompt you for feedback. We highly recommend taking a moment to provide this, as it improves both Palmier's understanding and benefits you for future changes.

To create a commit, click the Palmier button in the status bar (bottom right corner of your screen). If you'd like to configure Palmier settings, hover over the button.

Note: It might take a few minutes for the storage of the conversation to complete and the metadata to be updated. You can continue with your work while Palmier processes the conversation.

Viewing Chat History

To view the history behind any line of code:

  1. Select the line of code.
  2. Press Cmd + ↓ (down arrow).

Palmier will fetch relevant information, including:

  • The commit this line was part of.
  • A breakdown of commits if multiple lines are selected.
  • The original commit message.
  • If the code was generated with AI tools, the conversation that led to the change will be displayed.

This process might take a few seconds, especially for larger code selections.
