Requirements

1. Local microphone capture (sox or ffmpeg)

The extension records via a local CLI tool on the computer running the UI (your Mac/PC — including Remote-SSH windows, because this is a UI extension).

Platform Install (pick one)
macOS brew install sox or brew install ffmpeg
Linux sudo apt install sox / ffmpeg (or distro equivalent); ffmpeg often needs PulseAudio (pulse)
Windows Install ffmpeg and put it on PATH (e.g. winget/choco), or sox if available

Without sox/ffmpeg, record falls back to a silent stub WAV (pipeline test only — not real speech).

This is not a remote-server requirement. Do not install sox only on the SSH host for mic capture.

2. Seat key (kv2c_…)

  • Auto free key on first activate, or
  • Checkout success / Set API Key

3. BYOK for STT

  • OpenAI and/or xAI key in the BYOK tab (or dashboard Settings)
  • Active pathway must match a saved key

Manual key

KILO Voice-to-Code: Set API Key if you already have a kv2c_ key.
