Nexus for Visual Studio Code

The official Visual Studio Code extension for Nexus — developed, owned and maintained by Ezo inc.

Nexus is a structured framework for AI-assisted and agentic software development.

It helps software teams move beyond ad hoc use of coding agents by providing a common execution framework built around structured work, explicit context, traceability, quality assurance and measurable delivery.

This extension brings the Nexus experience directly into Visual Studio Code while keeping the Nexus CLI as the authoritative execution layer.

What is Nexus?

AI coding agents can generate software extremely quickly, but speed alone does not provide a reliable engineering process.

Nexus provides the operating framework around those agents.

Instead of replacing the developer or the coding agent, Nexus structures how work is prepared, executed, reviewed and validated.

The objective is to make AI-assisted development more:

• Structured — work is organized into explicit and actionable units.
• Traceable — requirements, decisions, execution and results remain connected.
• Controlled — the developer remains responsible for prioritization and validation.
• Reproducible — project context and execution rules can be shared and reused.
• Measurable — execution data can be captured and analyzed over time.

Nexus can support workflows ranging from application modernization and ongoing development to prototyping and new software projects.

What does the VS Code extension do?

Nexus for Visual Studio Code provides a native interface between your development environment and the Nexus ecosystem.

The extension exposes Nexus views and actions inside VS Code while delegating Nexus operations to the installed Nexus CLI.

The Nexus CLI remains the source of authority for command execution, authentication, licensing and Nexus workflow rules.

The extension does not bypass or duplicate those controls.

Requirements

To use this extension you need:

• Visual Studio Code
• Nexus CLI installed and configured
• An active Nexus account
• A valid and active Nexus license

If the Nexus CLI cannot access a valid configuration or license, Nexus operations will not execute.

The extension provides a configuration view to help users resolve CLI and licensing configuration issues when they occur.

Getting started

1. Install the extension

Install Nexus for Visual Studio Code directly from the Visual Studio Code Marketplace.

2. Install and configure Nexus CLI

The Nexus CLI must be installed and accessible from your development environment.

CLI installation and access instructions are provided to authorized Nexus users.

3. Authenticate Nexus

Configure your Nexus account and license using the Nexus CLI or the configuration interface available through the extension.

4. Open a Nexus workspace

Open a Git repository configured for Nexus.

The extension will use the Nexus CLI installed on your system to interact with the workspace.

Designed for agentic development

Nexus is designed to work alongside modern AI development agents.

The coding agent performs engineering work.

Nexus CLI

The VS Code extension is intentionally built on top of the Nexus CLI.

All Nexus operations initiated by the extension are ultimately executed through the CLI.

This architecture means that the same Nexus rules apply whether an operation originates from:

Licensing and authorization are therefore enforced independently of the VS Code user interface.

Licensing

Nexus is proprietary software.

Installing this extension does not grant a license to use Nexus.

Use of Nexus for Visual Studio Code requires a valid and active Nexus license and is subject to the applicable Nexus license terms.

If the Nexus license associated with the CLI is missing, invalid, expired, suspended or otherwise unavailable, Nexus operations may be refused by the CLI.
