TrueFidelity for VS Code

Deploy, flash, and debug automotive ECU firmware on TrueFidelity without leaving VS Code.

Features

  • Projects sidebar: your projects, topologies, and ECUs with live status.
  • One-click flash: upload a freshly built ELF and restart a single ECU.
  • One-click debug: no launch.json and no manual tunnel. The extension connects GDB to the ECU for you.
  • Flash & Debug: build, flash, and stop at reset on the new binary in one action.
  • ECU serial terminal: boot logs and printk output next to your code.
  • Local projects: open a folder with a topology.yaml, browse its ECUs, and validate it without signing in.
  • Automated tests: run file-based ECU tests from the Test Explorer and inspect the results.

Projects and ECUs

The Projects view shows your topologies and ECU state. Open an ECU's context menu to flash firmware, start debugging, or read its logs.

Automated tests

Discover test cases and suites in your project, run them from VS Code's Testing view, and open the results beside your firmware.

Get started

  1. Install the extension and reload VS Code.
  2. Open the TrueFidelity view in the activity bar and select Sign In.
  3. Allow the extension to download the tf command-line tool when it asks.
  4. Right-click an ECU and select Flash ECU…, then Start Debugging.

Run TrueFidelity: Getting Started from the Command Palette for a guided walkthrough.

Documentation

  • Install the VS Code extension
  • Use the VS Code extension
  • Debug with GDB
  • Commands and settings reference

Requirements

  • VS Code 1.90 or newer.
  • A TrueFidelity account for cloud features. Local projects work without one.
  • The KylinIdeTeam.cppdebug debug adapter. VS Code installs it automatically.

The first debug session downloads a cross-GDB that matches the ECU's board.

Privacy

The extension collects no usage data. It talks only to the TrueFidelity API you configure, through the tf command-line tool.

GDB source-code offer (GPL)

The debugging features download prebuilt GNU Debugger (GDB) toolchains (xPack GNU Arm Embedded / AArch64 builds), which are licensed under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later. GDB is a separate program; it is not linked into this extension.

The complete corresponding source code for these GDB builds is available at https://github.com/xpack-dev-tools (per-toolchain source archives are published alongside each release). Alternatively, Nebula Tech Solutions will provide the source for the exact builds we distribute, for a period of at least three years from distribution, on request to opensource@nebula-automotive.com.
