Features
Visual viewer & editor
Opening a photometric file shows a full photometric workspace (switch back to the raw text at any time with Open as Text):
- Overview: luminaire flux, LOR / DLOR / ULOR, efficacy (lm/W), peak intensity, beam (50%) and field (10%) angles, downward/upward split, CIE flux code, IES TM-15 BUG rating, zonal lumen summary and validation results.
- Polar diagram: any C-plane pair, linear or logarithmic scale, beam-angle markers, overlay comparison with a second file, export as SVG or PNG.
- Cartesian diagram: intensity against angle for the selected planes.
- 3D photometric solid: rotate, zoom, wireframe and colour-mapped intensity.
- Isolux diagram: illuminance on a floor at any mounting height, with luminaire tilt and rotation, maintenance factor, contours, and Emax / Eavg / Emin / U0.
- Cone diagram: centre illuminance and beam and field diameters by distance.
- Luminance table: average luminance at the glare angles (45°–85°).
- Intensity table: editable like a spreadsheet, with keyboard navigation, block paste from Excel, add, remove or edit any angle, a heat map, and cd or cd/klm units.
- Header & metadata: IES keywords (with
[MORE] support), EULUMDAT header fields, photometric type, absolute or relative photometry, dimensions, lamp sets, input watts, ballast factor, multiplier and TILT.
- Tools: scale, set flux or peak intensity, rotate, mirror, flip up/down, enforce or expand symmetry, resample the grid, convert Type A/B to Type C, toggle absolute or relative photometry, clamp negatives, zero a hemisphere, and smooth.
Every visual edit is a normal text edit, so Undo / Redo / Save / Git diff all work as usual.
Text editing support
- Syntax highlighting for IES, EULUMDAT and TM14.
- Live diagnostics for structure errors, value counts, non-monotonic angles, LM-63 symmetry rules, required LM-63-2019 keywords, and LORL / DFF consistency in LDT files.
- Hover on any number or line explains the field (for example "Isym – symmetry indicator" or "Candela at horizontal 45°, vertical 30°").
- Outline (document symbols), plus a CodeLens summary (flux, Imax, beam angle, lm/W).
- Format Document normalizes and re-writes the file.
Conversion & batch processing
- Right-click any photometric file and choose Photometric: Convert / Export to get IES, LDT, TM14, TM-33, CSV or an HTML report.
- Batch Convert Folder… converts every photometric file in a folder, optionally including sub-folders.
- Create Photometric File from CSV… and New Photometric File… create files from built-in templates (Lambertian, spot, flood, batwing, isotropic).
- Compare overlays a second file on the diagrams.
Settings
All settings live under photometricStudio.*, including:
- default tab
- units: cd or cd/klm, m or ft, lx or fc
- default polar planes, grid, beam markers and series colours
- isolux mounting height, area, resolution and maintenance factor
- decimals written to files
- IES output version (LM-63-1991 / 1995 / 2002 / 2019) and maximum line length
- LDT lamp-set preservation
- strict validation, hover and CodeLens
- the conversion output folder and overwrite policy
Notes
- Values are handled internally as absolute candela. Relative files (cd/klm, LDT) are converted using the first lamp set's flux.
- EULUMDAT supports Type C only. Use Tools → Convert to Type C first for Type A/B data.
- The CIBSE TM14 and TM-33 readers are tolerant implementations of the published layouts. The BUG rating is indicative.
