Rail Theme

A VS Code color theme built from the palette of the ThinkRail editor.

There are six variants: Rail Dark, Rail Light, Rail High Contrast Dark, Rail High Contrast Light, Rail Minimal Dark and Rail Minimal Light.

Rail Dark

Rail Light

Themes

  • Rail Dark: acid green accent, zinc surfaces, GitHub-style syntax colors.
  • Rail Light: light background, dark green text accent, bright green buttons.
  • Rail High Contrast Dark / Light: stronger borders and opaque selection colors.
  • Rail Minimal Dark / Light: lower-saturation accents for quieter setups.

Install

Search "Rail Theme" in the Extensions view, or install a local VSIX:

code --install-extension rail-theme-0.1.1.vsix

Then choose a theme from Preferences: Color Theme.

What's themed

Each theme covers the whole workbench: editor, tabs, sidebar, activity bar, panel, status bar, terminal, source control, diff view, notifications, quick pick, breadcrumbs and minimap. Syntax colors are defined per theme, with semantic highlighting and all 16 terminal ANSI colors.

Notes

  • The palette comes from ThinkRail. This is an independent project, not affiliated with or endorsed by JetBrains.
  • Fonts are not included. VS Code themes cannot install fonts. If you want the original look, install Geist and JetBrains Mono and set editor.fontFamily.
  • Themes are generated by scripts/generate_themes.py.
