Spring Boot Studio

Spring Boot Studio is a VS Code extension that speeds up everyday work on Spring Boot applications. You design your application as a single project model (settings, database, entities, relations, REST APIs, security), and the extension generates clean, runnable Spring Boot code into your workspace and keeps it consistent as the model changes.

Getting started

  1. Run Boot: New Project and fill in the form: group, artifact, build tool (Maven, Gradle Groovy or Gradle Kotlin DSL), Java or Kotlin, Spring Boot and Java versions, database and developer preferences. The project is created with a Maven or Gradle wrapper, ready to run.
  2. In an existing project, run Boot: Initialize Project Model. Settings are detected from pom.xml / build.gradle(.kts), the @SpringBootApplication class and application.yml / .properties.
  3. Change settings later with Boot: Edit Project Settings, or edit .springboot-studio/project.json directly (with completion and validation).
  4. Open the Spring Boot Studio view in the activity bar to see the generated code. Each file shows whether it is new, will be updated, or was changed in your workspace; click a file to see the diff, tick the files you want, and apply them. Boot: Generate does the same from a quick pick.
  5. Boot: Add Dependency searches Spring starters and Maven Central. The dependency is recorded in the model and inserted into your build file without touching anything else in it.
  6. Boot: Download as ZIP exports the generated project as a standalone archive.
