Use several Claude Code accounts in VS Code, for example your personal subscription and your company's seat, and pick which one each folder uses.
Features
Status bar: shows the Claude login of the current folder.
Switch per folder: click the status bar and pick an account. New Claude chats in that folder use it.
Add accounts: "Add account…" creates one and opens the login in a terminal.
What your organization pushes: hover the status bar to see, as a table, the settings your organization sends to that account (Claude Code's server-managed settings). An eye marks hooks and telemetry, the settings that can send your prompts and tool output to the organization.
Safety net: the status bar turns red if two accounts end up on the same login, which happens when /login replaces one.
Install the extension and choose Enable when it asks. This sets claudeCode.claudeProcessWrapper so Claude Code starts through multiclaude.
Click the account in the status bar, choose Add account… and log in with the other account.
Open a folder, click the status bar and pick the account it should use.
How it works
Each account is a Claude Code config dir (CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR) with its own login, under ~/.multiclaude/accounts. The extension bundles the multiclaude CLI at ~/.multiclaude/bin/multiclaude, and Claude Code runs it as its process wrapper: it looks up the folder's account and sets CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR before Claude starts. The same CLI works in the terminal; see the repository.
Commands
multiclaude: Switch Claude account for this folder
multiclaude: Add Claude account
multiclaude: Enable (start Claude Code through multiclaude)
multiclaude: Refresh
Things to know
Switch from the status bar, never with /login: /login replaces the login of the account the window is using.
Open chats keep their account; start a new chat or reload the window after switching.
MCP servers that log in with OAuth need authorizing once per account.
No telemetry and no network requests.
The hover opens after VS Code's workbench.hover.delay (1.5 s by default on macOS). Lower it in your settings if it feels slow; it applies to every workbench hover.
