LunaRabbit Code
An AI coding agent that investigates, edits, runs, and tests code in your VS Code workspace — and seals every finished request as a Git checkpoint you can return to.
Features
- Ask in natural language. Investigate code, make changes, run commands and tests, or request a review from the LunaRabbit Code panel.
- Work modes. Pick how the agent approaches a request:
- Code — do the task directly.
- Pipeline — plan, build, check, test, commit, and review, repeating until nothing is left to fix.
- Plan — explore read-only and write a grounded plan before any change.
- PRD, Steering, Specs — keep product, project-rule, and feature-spec documents under
.lunarabbit/ and run spec tasks one by one.
- Permission modes. Choose Manual (approve risky operations in chat), Auto, or Bypass permissions.
- Git checkpoints. Every completed request is committed to a private checkpoint ref without touching your branch, index, or
git log. Review what changed and restore an earlier checkpoint on a new branch.
- Inline tool cards. See each tool's arguments, duration, output, and errors in the conversation.
- Sessions. Browse, search, and continue project sessions from the LunaRabbit Code sidebar, which also shows plan and credit usage.
- Local engine. File access, search, commands, Git, and tests run on your machine through the bundled engine.
CodeLens defaults to 15 px in all Markdown files; override it in settings with "[markdown]": { "editor.codeLensFontSize": <n> }. Run all tasks asks for confirmation before using credits; the count comes from the Engine task queue, and an unsaved tasks.md must be saved first.
Requirements
- VS Code 1.85.0 or later.
- A trusted folder or workspace.
- A LunaRabbit account and network access to LunaRabbit services.
- A Git repository to use checkpoints and restore.
The extension ships a platform-specific build for:
- Windows x64
- macOS (Apple silicon and Intel)
- Linux x64 (glibc 2.28 or later)
Getting started
- Install the extension and open the folder or workspace you want to work in.
- Open LunaRabbit Code with
Ctrl+Shift+L (Cmd+Shift+L on macOS) or LunaRabbit: Open Code in the Command Palette.
- Select Sign in. Approve the sign-in in your browser, copy the code it shows, and paste it into the box in the LunaRabbit Code panel.
- Describe the coding task you want LunaRabbit Code to complete.
To sign out, use Sign out in the panel or LunaRabbit: Log Out. Signing out stops any running request first.
Remote Engine mode
Start the engine in a terminal with lunarabbit-engine --project-root <absolute-path> --port <port> --token-via-stdout. Copy the token from its single READY:<port>:<token> line into LunaRabbit: Set Remote Engine Token. Set the machine-scoped lunarabbit.remoteEngineMode, lunarabbit.localEngineHost, and lunarabbit.localEnginePort settings, then reload the window. The token is kept in VS Code SecretStorage for that host and port. The engine binds to loopback by default; use an SSH tunnel to reach another machine.
Additional directories
lunarabbit.additionalDirectories grants the engine file and search access outside the first workspace folder. It is machine-scoped and read-only by default; extra folders in a multi-root workspace are also added read-only.
{
"lunarabbit.additionalDirectories": [
"/absolute/reference",
{ "path": "/absolute/generated", "write": true }
]
}
Only existing absolute directories are accepted. Broad or sensitive paths — the home directory, credential directories, and any ancestor that contains one — are rejected. Writes in extra directories are not covered by checkpoints. This setting cannot come from a repository's .vscode/settings.json.
Data and privacy
LunaRabbit Code runs tools on your machine through the bundled engine. To answer a request, your prompt and the file contents, command output, and other context the agent reads are sent to LunaRabbit services and to the language-model providers that serve the request. Usage is billed to your LunaRabbit plan credits.
