Replicas Delegate for VS Code

Extension demo Version Installs

Delegate engineering tasks to Replicas cloud coding agents — Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, and OpenCode — without leaving your editor.

Click the Replicas icon in the Activity Bar, describe the task, and an agent spins up in an isolated cloud Linux VM, writes the code, and opens a pull request. Track live status (Preparing → Running → PR Opened) and open the PR or the dashboard workspace right from the sidebar. Done with a workspace? Delete it (and stop its billing) with the 🗑 button.

Quickstart

  1. Install the extension and click the Replicas icon in the Activity Bar.
  2. Paste your API key (from replicas.dev → Settings → API keys) and hit Save & Connect. It's stored in VS Code's secure SecretStorage — never in plain text.
  3. Set your Default Environment ID (find it in GET /v1/environments or your dashboard).
  4. Type a task, optionally tick Include selected code with code highlighted in your editor, pick an agent, and hit Delegate task →.
  5. Watch it run. Open PR ↗ when it lands, or 🗑 to delete the workspace.

Requirements

  • A Replicas account with an API key and at least one environment.
  • VS Code 1.85+ (also works in Cursor, Windsurf, and other VS Code-compatible editors via Open VSX).

Settings

Setting Description
replicas.environmentId Default Replicas Environment ID used when delegating tasks.
replicas.pollingIntervalSec Status refresh interval in seconds (5–60, default 7).

FAQ

Is my API key safe? Yes — it's stored in VS Code's OS-keychain-backed SecretStorage. Only the environment ID lives in (unencrypted) settings.

Where do agents run, and what does it cost? In isolated Replicas cloud VMs, billed per minute while awake on your Replicas plan. Sleeping/archived workspaces aren't billed. Deleting a workspace from the sidebar stops it immediately.

A task is stuck / the dashboard link looks wrong? Hit ↻ Refresh. The dashboard button opens app.replicas.dev (the app host — replicas.dev/... workspace URLs 404, which is why the extension links there).
