A small VS Code extension that adds a left-aligned status-bar control for starting, stopping, and monitoring Tilt without keeping an integrated terminal tab occupied.
What it does
Shows Tilt state in the status bar:
● Tilt: stopped
◐ Tilt: starting
● Tilt: up (healthy/total)
✕ Tilt: error
Clicking the status-bar item starts Tilt when stopped.
When Tilt is running, clicking opens actions for:
Stop (tilt down)
Restart (tilt down, then tilt up)
Open Tilt UI
Show Logs
Runs tilt up directly via Node child processes instead of a VS Code terminal.
Streams tilt up and tilt down output to View → Output → Tilt.
Polls Tilt's local HTTP API at http://localhost:10350/api/view to update health and resource counts.
On activation, attaches to an already-running Tilt API instead of spawning a duplicate tilt up process.
Does not stop Tilt when VS Code closes. Tilt is only torn down by the explicit Tilt: Down command or Stop action.
Commands
All commands are available from the Command Palette with the Tilt: prefix:
Tilt: Up
Tilt: Down
Tilt: Restart
Tilt: Show Logs
Tilt: Open UI
Requirements
tilt must be available on the PATH seen by VS Code.
The opened workspace must contain a Tiltfile at the root or in a subdirectory.
Tilt's local API must be reachable on port 10350 unless you change tiltButton.port in VS Code settings.
Configuration
tiltButton.port: Tilt UI/API port. Defaults to 10350.
tiltButton.tiltfilePath: optional workspace-relative path to the Tiltfile to use, for example services/api/Tiltfile. Use this in monorepos with multiple Tiltfiles.
