RedLens Pro

The paid half of RedLens, the Redshift-native SQL IDE for VS Code.

RedLens Pro requires the free RedLens extension. VS Code installs it for you as a dependency. RedLens Pro adds features to that extension — it is not a standalone product and does nothing on its own.

What you get

Cost and performance advice. CloudWatch infrastructure metrics with the RPU cost of the window you are looking at, distkey/sortkey advice, skew, stale statistics, and AWS's own Advisor recommendations with the SQL it suggests. WLM queueing, per-query RPU cost and decoded COPY errors.

The Redshift console, in the sidebar. Parameters with everything non-default first, network and encryption, snapshots and retention, maintenance, logging and audit delivery, scheduled actions, usage limits, events and reservations. Plus the aws CLI to pause, resize or reconfigure — generated for you to review, with what it interrupts, whether it can be undone, and how to verify it worked.

AI grounded in your live schema. Natural language to SQL, plan explanation, query optimisation, error fixing, table description, and an @redlens chat participant. It runs on your own Copilot subscription — there is no AI service of ours in the path.

Governance administration. Generated user, role and datashare DDL for review, and "why can this person do that" — the transitive role resolution with the path that grants each privilege.

Migration and pipelines. Schema diff to migration DDL, row-level data diff, guided UNLOAD and COPY, and scheduled queries via EventBridge.

What stays free

Everything you need to work with data: connecting (four connection types, never counted or capped), the schema explorer, the SQL editor, the full result grid with charts and editing, notebooks, EXPLAIN, sessions and locks, the governance tree and privilege viewers, and the embedded MCP server for AI agents.

Every safety feature is free and always will be — read-only mode, the production safeguard, transaction control and PII-safe masking. Charging for not leaking PII is not a position worth defending.

The free extension is open source under the MIT licence: https://github.com/redlens-io/redlens

Trial and licensing

The first activation starts a 14-day trial of everything, with no card and no account. When it ends the Pro features lock and the free extension keeps working exactly as before.

Licences are per person, per year:

  • Buy RedLens Pro — $99/year
  • Buy Team seats — $79/seat/year, minimum five

Your receipt arrives by email with an Access purchase button; the key is on the page it opens, under Benefit Grants, and in your account at any time. Run RedLens: Manage Licence, choose Enter a licence key and paste it — it is verified offline, on your machine.

Cancelling is a button, in the customer portal, reachable from RedLens: Manage Licence without leaving the editor. No email to us, no notice period, and you keep Pro until the end of the term you paid for. Invoices, payment method, seats and machine activations are there too.

Your data does not leave your machine

RedLens has no server. Your SQL, your results, your schemas, your credentials and your AWS traffic go directly between your machine and your own systems. Licence verification is offline against a key embedded in the extension.

Full terms: LICENSE.md, which governs RedLens Pro only — the free extension is MIT and is not covered by it.
