Café Crème & Aubergine Theme

Two themes taken from the palette of kellian-cottart.github.io:

  • Kellian Café Crème, a light theme: cream parchment, latte side panels and espresso ink. Code is coloured in caramel, cinnamon, mocha, olive, mulberry and teal.
  • Kellian Aubergine, a dark theme: deep aubergine, with amber, lavender, sky blue, rose and mint.

Body text in both themes reads at better than 11:1 contrast. Syntax colours meet 4.5:1, except comments, which are dimmed on purpose.

Install

Open the Extensions view, search for Café Crème & Aubergine Theme, and install it. Then run Preferences: Color Theme from the command palette and pick Kellian Café Crème or Kellian Aubergine.

Optional: the fabric textures

On the website, the page sits on a faint glen plaid and the header on a herringbone. A VS Code theme can't contain images, so the textures ship as a separate stylesheet, kellian-textures.css. It only takes effect while a Kellian theme is active.

  1. Install Custom CSS and JS Loader (be5invis.vscode-custom-css).
  2. Point it at the stylesheet in your user settings.json:
    "vscode_custom_css.imports": [
      "file:///${userHome}/.vscode/extensions/kellian-cottart.kellian-theme-0.2.1/kellian-textures.css"
    ]

    The version number in the folder name changes with each release.
  3. Run Enable Custom CSS and JS from the command palette, then restart VS Code.

The loader works by patching VS Code's own files. After a restart, VS Code reports that the installation "appears to be corrupt", which you can dismiss. Run step 3 again after each VS Code update. Disable Custom CSS and JS reverts the patch.

Fonts

A theme can't set fonts. The website uses Lexend and Fraunces, and you can set those yourself in your settings if you like.
