Basque+ Spellchecker

A powerful, Hunspell-based spellchecker for Basque (Euskara), with optional support for English (US) and Spanish (Spain).

Configuration

You can configure the extension in your User or Workspace settings:

• basquePlus.enabledLanguages: Select the languages you want to check.
  • Default: ["eu_ES"] (Basque only)
  • Options:
    • "eu_ES": Basque (Euskara)
    • "en_US": English (US)
    • "es_ES": Spanish (Spain)

Example configuration for a polyglot user:

• basquePlus.enableLiveChecking: Enable/disable checking as you type (default: true).
• basquePlus.checkDelay: Delay in milliseconds before checking (default: 500).

Why Hunspell for Basque?

Basque is an agglutinative language with complex declensions. Simple word-list spellcheckers often fail to recognize valid declined forms. Hunspell uses affix files (.aff) to understand these rules, providing much higher accuracy and fewer false positives.
