Commit Message Generator

Instantly generate Conventional Commits messages from your staged Git diff — no AI key required.

Features

  • One-click generation — click the ✨ button in the Source Control panel or run the command from the palette
  • Conventional Commits format — automatically picks the right type: feat, fix, docs, refactor, chore, style, test
  • Smart scope & description — parses changed file paths and function/class names to fill in scope and description
  • Zero configuration — works out of the box with the built-in VS Code Git extension
  • AI-ready architecture — the analyzer module is designed to be swapped with a Groq (or any LLM) backend when you're ready

Usage

Source Control panel button

Stage your files, then click the ✨ sparkle icon in the top-right of the Source Control panel.

Command Palette

  1. Ctrl+Shift+P (or Cmd+Shift+P on macOS)
  2. Type Generate Commit Message
  3. Press Enter

The commit message input box is filled in automatically.
